Mepiquat chloride is a plant growth regulator that is commonly used to reduce stem growth and increase early maturity in cotton. It can be absorbed from leaves, roots, stems, then transited to the whole plant body. It reduce the activity of gibberellin in the plant, to restrain the elongation of cells. As a result, the plant vegetative rank growth will be effectively restricted, the height of plant be lowered, the stem and roots are going to be more thick and robust, enhance the lodging-resistance of the plant, promote the chlorophyll’s synthesis, increase the photosynthesis efficiency of the whole plant, make the the reproductive organ get more nutrition, finally increase the yield. Proper management of rank growth by mepiquat chloride can positively affects fiber quality of a cotton crop.  

1. Soaking of seeds: Generally 1g for 1kg cotton seeds, dissolved in 8L water, after soaking for 24 hours, dry the seeds in air until the seed coat turns white. Then the seeds can be sowed. Function: increase the seeds’ activity, enhance the stress tolerance, avoid the high and slim seedlings.

2. Bud stage:0.5-1g dissolved in 25-30L water, for each Mu(Chinese area unit, about 667 m2).  Function: restrict the rank growth of the cotton plant, build the ideal plant shape, optimize the canopy structure, defer the crop closing, increase the high quality bolls, reduce the workload of pruning.

3. Incipient blooming stage: 2-3g dissolved in 30-40L water, for each Mu(Chinese area unit, about 667 m2). Function: restrict the rank growth of the cotton plant, build the ideal plant shape, optimize the canopy structure, defer the crop closing, increase the high quality bolls, reduce the workload of pruning.

4. Fullbloom-stage: 3-4g dissolved in 40-50L water, for each Mu(Chinese area unit, about 667 m2). Function: restrain the useless twigs and buds in the later period; prevent the cotton plant from unfavorable-delayed senescence; increase the number and weight of bolls. (the usage level of Mepiquat Chloride can be increased if the water and fertility are sufficient, otherwise the level is supposed to be lowered.)
